The Iranian regime has reinstated the death sentence of Sharifeh Mohammadi, a well-known labour activist.
The new death sentence was announced on February 13th, the day of Sharifeh’s son’s birthday. This reversal of the Supreme Court’s October 2024 decision to revoke the death sentence followed a sham retrial lasting almost two months.
A branch of the so-called Revolutionary Court in Rasht sentenced Sharifeh Mohammadi to death on July 4th, 2024. Her trumped-up charges included “armed rebellion” – based on her previous membership of the Co-ordination Committee for Establishing Labour Organisations! Examples of Sharifeh Mohammadi’s “rebellion” charge included “possession of posters calling for no executions, membership of a Telegram group, and publication of several articles.”
The Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign strongly condemns the arrest, continuing detention and baseless sentencing of Sharifeh Mohammadi and calls for her immediate and unconditional release. We urge all trade unionists, socialists and other political activists to help us in defending the rights of all workers, political prisoners and social rights activists in Iran.
Free all political prisoners in Iran!
