Yaser Ahmadinejad, a victimised oil worker, is still not allowed to return to work.
In June 2025, the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) worker recorded a short video message in which he respectfully voiced the contract workers’ basic demands. These included a call on the regime to pay the contract workers their approved 35% pay rise.
The NIDC’s management and the Iranian regime suspended Yaser Ahmadinejad from work for daring to raise these basic demands in such a public way.
In response, his workmates at the NIDC set up a solidarity fund and other workers in Khuzestan Province also contributed towards supporting this popular labour activist. Recently, Yaser Ahmadinejad’s workmates have taken to the streets to show their support for him and to call for his reinstatement. One of their slogans has been: Yaser isn’t one person. We’re all Yaser.
The Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign strongly condemns the harassment of Yaser Ahmadinejad and all other labour activists in Iran. We demand that all trumped-up charges against labour activists are dropped immediately and unconditionally, all sacked workers return to work and all political prisoners are freed. We urge all trade unionists, socialists and other political activists to help us in defending the rights of all workers, political prisoners and social rights’ activists in Iran.
