The Antifascist Coordination of Athens and Piraeus is engaged in a campaign to cancel the pan-European neo-nazi gathering in Athens on November 1 (read more here). Protest letters have been sent to the Greek Ministry of Citizen’s Protection by a number of Irish TDs (Members of Parliament) and Swedish councillors.
Letter from People Before Profit TDs
Dear Ambassador Nicolaou,
We are writing to you as representatives of People Before Profit.
We were taken aback to be informed that an all-European neo-nazi gathering is being organised in Athens, on November 1st. The neo-nazi Golden Dawn which, among other far-right organisations, calls for this gathering has been convicted as a criminal organisation and they are responsible for the murder of at least two people and the attempted murder of several others. In August, a neo-nazi group of fans linked to Dinamo Zagreb murdered a fan of AEK football club in Athens and injured several others. We can only imagine what will happen if hundreds of neo-nazis are allowed to wander around in Athens.
We believe that the Greek government and the Municipality of Neo Heraklion (where the gathering is meant to take place) should cancel this event before it is too late. If they refuse to do so, they will be responsible for the violence that the fascists will unleash.
We intend to raise this issue in the Dáil.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Murphy TD
Richard Boyd Barrett TD
Gino Kenny TD
Bríd Smith TD

Letter from Workers Party Swedish councillors
To the Greek Ministry of Citizens’ Protection
We are members of the municipal council in the city of Umeå in Sweden, and we were taken aback to be informed that an all-European Neo-Nazi gathering is being organized in Athens on November 1st. The Neo-Nazi Golden Dawn that, among other Nazi organizations, calls for this gathering has been convicted as a criminal organization. They are responsible for the murder of at least two people and the attempted murder of several others. In August, a Neo-Nazi group of fans linked to Dinamo Zagreb murdered a fan of AEK Football Club in Athens and injured several others. We can only imagine what will happen if hundreds of Neo-Nazis are allowed to wander around in Athens.
We demand that the Greek government and the Municipality of Neo Heraklion (where the gathering is meant to take place) cancel the Neo-Nazi plans before it’s too late. If they refuse to do so, they will bear responsibility for the violence that the Neo-Nazis will unleash.
Sincerely,
