Re-post from Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign
The Iranian regime has sentenced Siamak Ebrahimi and Shahrokh Ahmadi, two well-known labour activists, to long custodial sentences.
On the charge of “assembly and collusion with the intention of committing a crime against the security of the country” Branch 26 of the so-called Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Siamak Ebrahimi to serve five years in prison. He was also condemned to a further eight months in jail for “propaganda activity” – a total of 5 years and 8 months of incarceration.
This court also sentenced Shahrokh Ahmadi to 4 years of imprisonment for “assembly and collusion with the intention of committing a crime against the security of the country”.
Their hearings were held on July 17th and earlier, on February 28th, they were released on a bail of 700 million tomans ($16,548).
The Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign strongly condemns the sentencing and continuing detention of Siamak Ebrahimi and Shahrokh Ahmadi, and calls for their immediate and unconditional release. We urge all trade unionists, socialists and other political activists to help us in defending the rights of all workers, political prisoners and social rights’ activists in Iran.
